Beautiful, diverse, prolific, and resilient, these sun-loving plants are simply amazing! Non-invasive (unlike inferior predecessors that pre-date hybrid types), the clump grows larger every year but never becomes aggressive. They come in a dazzling array of colors, shapes, and sizes.
But there’s more! Hybrid daylilies are the garden's ultimate survivors, shrugging off droughts, pests, and diseases. They're like the Chuck Norris of plants, super tough and ready to kick any gardening challenge to the curb. :) All of the varieties listed below are registered cultivars with the American Daylily Society. (Bloom time - summer)
Mary’s Gold - I know what you’re thinking…..another yellow daylily? Blah. But you couldn’t be more wrong. Mary’s Gold was the first daylily I ever acquired (many years ago). It is the OG of my daylily obsession, and for a reason. With a 6.5 inch brilliant golden bloom and a green throat, it is simply stunning in the garden. Number available: 2
Dominic - This cultivar is a magnificent, deep burgundy color with a gold throat. Its 5.5 inch flowers have rich and velvety petals, and it's one of the first to bloom each year in my garden. I know it sounds cliche, but the photo does not do it justice. This one needs to be seen! The epitome of floral fabulousness, it's ready to turn any ordinary day into a grand soiree! Number available: 1
Listen Without Prejudice - This is one of our own Blacksnake Farm introductions! And even if I hadn't nurtured this plant from a tiny seed, I'd still be in love with it! The 8 inch bloom is a serene pale yellow, with a green throat. Always elegant and ethereal, I love to watch this amazing flower sway in the breeze. Number available: 1
Tuscawilla Tigress - Tigress, indeed. With her bright yellow throat and combination burnt and bright orange bloom measuring slightly more than 7 inches, you'll have no doubt she's a top predator and a feline on a mission! Spotted Fever - I just love the whimsey of this cultivar. It's a 3.75 inch peachy-cream double, with a lime green throat, subtle speckles, and a double dose of personality! With the undeniable charisma of this cultivar, you won't even care if the "fever" is contagious. :) Number available: 1
Holiday Delight - If I had to choose just one word to describe this daylily I would say BRIGHT! Its 6.25 inch bloom is a botanical party starter, a burst of holiday cheer in middle of summer. You'll love the reddish-orange bloom with a darker red eyezone, and vivid gold throat. Number available: 2
Royal Butterfly - The name is fitting, as this fabulous cultivar seems at once both regal and free-spirited. Its soft pink 7 inch petals and sepals curl delicately backwards, bringing attention to the narrow rose-colored eyezone and large green throat. It will flutter into your heart! Number available: 1
All American Chief - You'll feel patriotic just gazing at this vibrant daylily! Its bright red bloom above a gold throat measures 9 inches and is an impressive beacon in the garden. Fun fact about this daylily....it has won the Stout Medal, the highest award a daylily can earn. When you see it in person, you'll know why! Number available: 1
Mandarin Corsage - With layers of mandarin red in her feisty five inch bloom, this floral fashionista brings me a feeling of felicity! (Sorry; that alliteration just overtook me. This what happens when former English teachers compose daylily descriptions LOL) You'll love this daylily! Number available: 1
Zero to Sixty - Buckle up! This daylily isn’t here for a slow Sunday drive. With a scape that’s up to 4 feet tall and a 9 inch purple bloom with cream midribs and a lemon throat, this one is the sports car of the garden…..flashy, fast, and sure to turn heads. Number available: 1
Real Wind - What's not to love about a daylily that's the color of orange sherbet? :) In addition, the unique raspberry eye and bright yellow throat on this 6.5 inch bloom give it a very distinctive look in the flowerbed. Pardon Me - This tiny titan of the flowerbed is approximately 18 inches high, with a 2.75 inch bloom. With blooms no bigger than a polite "excuse me" in a crowded room, its one of the smallest cultivars on our farm.
